As we track Africa's large mammals on foot we learn about the ancient art of tracking and uncover some of the behavioural traits of the various animals as we progress along the tracks and signs left by their passing. The excitement of closing in on your quarry and sense of achievement when coming face to face with your quarry is always a highlight.

 

Game Drives
     
Informative game drives and walks sharing intimate moments with Africa's wildlife.

 

Animals, Birds & Insects
     
Gain insight into their worlds and how evolution has created a complex and interrelated system that remains dynamic and forever changing to given environmental factors.

 

Plants & Their Uses
     
Collecting plant material and preparing a variety of medicinal, edible and other uses.

 

Navigation
     
Practical navigation excercise in the bush using a map and compass. Learn how to use natural navigation pointers and methods of orienteering in the field. Lost excercise to encourage teamwork, develop instinctive feel for the land and to work under pressure towards a common goal.

 

Riflecraft
     
Fundamentals of riflecraft, safety with a rifle, ammunition and malfunctions thereof, firing positions are some of the topics covered here. Once competent with the safe operation and use of a rifle, we progress to the practical shoot which includes static and moving targets.

 

Grasses, Shrubs & Trees
     
Understand their role in the ecosystem, learn to identify the dominant species and how
they interact with each other.

 

Field Projects
     
With some courses we include some practical hands on field work including seepline ecology and rehabilitation and erosion control. These projects contribute significantly to rehabilitating areas which have been dammaged or rendered disfunctional due to man's lack of foresight in the past.

 

Managing Private Conservation Areas adjacent to National Parks
     
Gain insight into the Timbavati warden's work as a wildlife manager and learn about the management plan of the area. We look at the history of the Timbavati, how funds are generated to finance its operational activities and how management adapts its plan to the environment to maintain and promote biodiversity.

 

Survival & Bushcraft Skills
     
Living and surviving in the bush. Finding water, food and building a shelter are of primary importance. We sleep out under the stars, learning fundemental life saving survival and bushcraft skills. A must for the African Adventurer.
